Extra information about a whole idea
· I have 3 cats in my house which means there's a lot of fur on my clothes
· My dad gives money every week, which is nice because I can save to buy a laptop
USED TO for past habits
· I used to have / I used to be
· People used to listen to music from boomboxes
· Would for past actions (in the same way we use "used to")
· The two sentences from the picture are equivalent (Remember you can't use WOULD with past repeated actions with non-action verbs, for example, we don't say "When I was young, I would live in Hermosillo", we say "When I was young we used to live in Hermosillo)
While, unlike, except for/that
· We use while to contrast full sentences: "While you spend a lot of money, I prefer to save for the future"
· We use unlike to contrast one full sentence: "Unlike you, I prefer to save money for the future"
· We use except in the following scenarios:
· 1) I'm like everyone else, except that I am taller
· 2) I'm like everyone else, except for my height
